Milly Grant Writing Academy is named after Mervis Linda Mills—affectionately known as "Milly", my grandmother, my teacher, and the woman who showed me what determination looks like.
Milly immigrated to the United States from Jamaica with nothing but a dream and unshakable resolve. She worked as a housekeeper in Greenwich, Connecticut, earning every dollar with dignity and purpose. But she didn't come here just for herself. One by one, she sponsored each family member, bringing them to this country and giving them the opportunity she fought so hard to secure.
Milly considered herself a teacher, though she never stood in front of a formal classroom. Her classroom was life. Her lessons were resilience, strategy, and the power of documentation. She always had a pen and paper with her—always. She documented everything, kept records, told stories, and never forgot a detail. She understood that information is power, and that writing things down turns dreams into plans.
She was witty, determined, and knew how to close a deal—even if that deal was convincing an immigration officer or negotiating a better opportunity for her family. Milly didn't wait for permission. She didn't romanticize the struggle. She wrote her way forward.
That's the spirit behind Milly Grant Writing Academy.
We believe in writing your way to the money. We believe in strategy over sympathy, asset framing over deficit thinking, and closing the knowledge gap so you can build the future you deserve.
The Grant Writing Intensive is just the beginning. We'll be offering business intensives across multiple topics—all designed to fuel growth, build confidence, and give you the tools Milly would have wanted you to have: a pen, a plan, and the knowledge to make it happen.
This is reparations. This is repair. This is Milly's legacy.
